Women Advocating for Women

The Advocacy Network is made up of individuals and over twenty women’s organizations which collectively and actively network with thousands of_women in South Dakota.  We were founded in 1984 to advance the legislative process through our lobbyists, public education, and citizen action. 

Since statehood, South Dakota women have been governed by a vast majority of men at the local, state and federal levels of government.  For almost thirty years the Advocacy Network has raised money to support our lobbyists and bring the sensible voices of women to the legislative process. 

We’ve had remarkable accomplishments including stronger domestic violence and sexual assault laws and funding for services, broader mandatory coverage of women’s health procedures, and maintaining women’s fundamental right to reproductive freedom.
